Gerald Brown
It is with great sadness that I must report the passing of my co-editor,Gerald Brown. Gerald Brown died at St Joseph's Hospice in Auckland, New Zealand,23 May 2002 after a long and valiant fight against cancer.
I am sure we will all miss Gerald both as a friend and a colleague. Throughout his life, Gerald has established direct contacts with some of the principal universities in our field. He completed his PhD at The University of Reading; held professorships at Salford (UK), Auckland (NZ) and NUS (Singapore)and taught and worked at City University in London.
More extensively, through his articles and co-editorship of the Journal of Property Investment & Finance, he has played a significant part in developing "real estate" as a subject of academic excellence.
We will be publishing a special issue (early next year) in memory of Gerald(see the call for papers in this issue) but I hope that all the issues of this journal stand as a suitable testimony of Gerald's unstinting belief in academic excellence.
New Journal: Zeitschrift für Immobilienökonomie
Last July, I wrote an editorial commenting upon the way in which real estate is establishing itself as a academic discipline worldwide. In this regard, I am pleased to announce the establishment of a new journal in Germany The German Property Research Journal or in its native tongue, Zeitschrift für Immobilienökonomie. Although this journal is not published by Emerald,its editors, Karl-Werner Schulte and Barbara Pierschke, will be encouraging authors who are successful in publishing in German to submit English language papers for consideration in Journal of Property Investment & Finance.
