The University of Alicante was created in 1979 and it is the heir to the historic rights of the University of Orihuela, from the seventeenth century. The Faculty of Economics was one of the centres that was started at the same time(Figure 6). It has important resources in Theoretic, Financial and Applied Economics. (http://ecofin.ua.es/facultad).

The Institute of International Economics (IEI), is a non-profit making economic research centre. It was set up in 1995 by the Universities of Alicante,Valencia and Jaumel of Castellon. It is an integrated inter-university institution. The Institute's main objective is to promote a context for research open to all, of the highest academic level, within the broad framework of economic analysis and international relationships. Call for papers
The conference will provide a forum for discussion and exchange across a broad spectrum of real estate and urban economics topics. Academics and practitioners are invited to submit papers reporting on current theoretical and empirical research in real estate and urban economics in the broadest sense.

In addition to sessions on the above topics, the 2001 conference will have a number of special themed sessions on the Spanish property market, which will examine topics such as development, finance, investment and individual property market dynamics. A number of expert panel sessions on key issues of relevance across European real estate markets will also take place. A special session on property markets in the Ibero-American Region will also be organised.
Doctoral session
The conference will be preceded by a doctoral session on Tuesday June 26. This aims to provide current PhD students in real estate with an opportunity to give a short presentation of their work and invite discussion from conference participants. Students wishing to participate should send a two page summary of their work to the conference secretary by February 5, 2001
How to submit abstracts and papers
Those interested in having a paper considered for presentation at the conference should submit an abstract, no later than February 5, 2001. Submissions must include the complete name(s)of the author(s); along with their address, telephone and facsimile number, and e-mail address. E-mail submission is strongly encouraged.

Volunteers to serve as session organizers, chairs as well as those interested in organizing a panel are encouraged to indicate their willingness to do so no later than 5 February, 2001.

Location
The city of Alicante (Figure 8), capital of the province of Alicante, is a resort situated in one of the most dynamic areas of the Mediterranean. It is the fourth most prosperous region in Spain with tourism as a key factor in its economic growth and offers services linked to both commerce and leisure. It also has important industrial areas exporting all over the world.

Its business and cultural dynamism is well known thoughout the world,reflected in the fact that it is home to the headquarters of the Office for Harmonisation in the Internal Market (Trade Marks and Designs) OHIM. All these factors link Alicante to the European institutions. Alicante has marvellous beaches and enjoys a privileged climate with the mildest winters in Spain.
The city of Alicante has a rich architectural heritage from the Middle Ages including the Santa Barbara Castle, The Church of Santa Maria and the Cathedral of San Nicolas de Bari. The Monastry of Santa Faz is an example of the Baroque style from Levante. The city has many important theatres, museums and cultural centres.
How to get to Alicante University
The University of Alicante is situated 13km from the international airport"ElAltet", which connects it directly or indirectly with any national or international destination. There are direct flights to the most important European cities and a lots of charter flights. Alicante is also linked to France by motorway (A-7) via Valencia and Barcelona, as well as railway, and to Madrid and Murcia by both.
