Joseph T.L. Ooi is Director of the MSc (Real Estate) program at the Department of Real Estate, National University of Singapore (NUS). He is the Reviews Editor of the Journal of Property Investment & Finance. He has also been appointed recently to sit on the editorial board of the Pacific Rim Property Research Journal.
He obtained his BSc (Estate Management) and MSc (Real Estate) degrees from NUS. He did his PhD at the School of Management, UMIST, UK under the Commonwealth Scholarship. Prior to joining NUS in 1994, he worked for an international property consultancy firm as well as the property arm of Singapore Airlines. Currently, Joseph teaches real estate development and corporate real estate finance in NUS. He writes real estate cases regularly and conducts seminars and training sessions for executive staff of statutory boards,government and international agencies. In the past years, he received many nominations from his graduate and undergraduate students for "best teaching"and "innovative teaching".
Joseph Ooi's current research interests are in Real Estate Finance and Real Estate Development. His research papers have been published in leading real estate journals worldwide. An independent study presented at the International Real Estate Society Congress in July 2001 ranked Joseph as the second most prolific international research contributor for UK journals and third overall. He has also won several international awards for research excellence, including nomination for Best Papers at the 1999 European Real Estate Society's (ERES)Conference in Athens, a "Highly Commended" certificate from the MCB University Press in 2000, and an "Outstanding Paper" award by Literati Club 2001. He also received a financial award from the American Real Estate Society (ARES)Foundation to present a research paper at its annual meeting in Naples, Florida in 2002.
Kim-Hiang Liow is currently an Associate Professor and the Deputy Head (Academic) with the Department of Real Estate, School of Design and Environment, National University of Singapore. He lectures in Finance and Accounting, Real Estate Investment and Portfolio Analysis, and Corporate Real Estate at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. He has taught in training workshops and seminars for executives from the private sector, government and international institutions. Kim-Hiang Liow conducts research in strategic corporate real estate, property market cycles and real estate capital markets. He presents research papers regularly in international real estate conferences. In April 2002, he received a financial award from the American Real Estate Society Foundation to attend and present a research paper at its annual meeting in Naples, Florida. His research papers have been published in/(accepted by)several international real estate journals including Journal of Real Estate Finance and Economics, Journal of Property Research, Journal of Property Investment & Finance, Journal of Corporate Real Estate, Journal of Financial Management of Property and Construction and Pacific Rim Property Research Journal. Currently, he is an editorial board member of Journal of Property Research, Journal of Property Investment & Finance, Journal of Financial Management of Property and Constructionand Pacific Rim Property Research Journal and Special Issue Guest Editor(2003) of Journal of Financial Management of Property and Construction. He has also been on the Board of Directors, Asian Real Estate Society since August 2001.
