Architecture is emerging as an important concept in training and development. This covers all the design elements necessary for effective implementation and results – ensuring that potentially competing objectives are taken note of and made congruent; that reward and incentive structures are in line with training objectives; that a cost‐benefit approach to knowledge and information is taken; that delivery personnel are right for the task; and that supporting resources, such as printed materials, are properly designed to complement all the above. These various aspects of training architecture are discussed, and points made for trainers and development personnel to follow.
