Rich countries increase CO2 emissions

Greenhouse gas emissions from industrialised countries reached their highest levels since the early 1990s in 2004, according to the latest UN review of emission data from Annex I countries to the UN climate change convention. A more or less stable trend upwards since 2000 can be seen. Emissions increased by 2.4 per cent from 2000-2004, bringing them back to within 3.3 per cent of 1990 levels. The emerging economies that have supplied most reductions to date experienced an emission increase of 4.1 per cent from 2000-2004.
