GSI Lumonics introduces the TrimSmart LT1100

GSI Lumonics Inc has announced the release of its new TrimSmart ™ LT1100 laser trim system for use in SMEMA-compatible PCB production lines. (see Plate 6). The LT1100 provides real-time adjustment and test of resistors, capacitors,and inductors on RF modules, VCOs, and other hybrid circuits in an automated,in-line SMT production environment, making it an enabling technology for producing low-cost wireless device modules.

While comparing output to required specifications, the system trims resistors, capacitors, and inductors with a precise laser beam to conform the circuits to the exact output value required. The LT1100 enables a significant increase in throughput through its ability to simultaneously test, fine-tune,and process multiple circuits on a PC board. This in-line capability is critical for high-volume applications such as mobile phones and a range of emerging wireless products.
Running under Windows NT ®, the LT1100 utilizes an enhanced, high-speed pattern recognition system that enables precision beam placement and part alignment, over a broad bandwidth of available lighting. This feature is beneficial due to the variable lighting conditions in most facilities.
