On August 3, 1944 Degussa AG of Frankfurt am Main began to operate its first plant for the production of Aerosil by the company's own method at Rheinfelden, in the Baden region of Germany. Today, Degussa produces this material on a large scale in Belgium, the USA and Japan. Aerosil is a highly‐dispersed silica of great purity. It is claimed that its exceptional chemical and physical properties have proved ideal for a great many applications.
