ELINCS registration for Incozol 2

Following months of rigorous testing, Incozol 2 a highly advanced mono-oxazolidine moisture scavenger manufactured by UK-based Industrial Copolymers Limited (ICL) has received ELINCS (European List of Notified Chemical Substances) registration.

Suitable for use in one or two-component polyurethane systems, Incozol 2 can reportedly be used to eliminate residual moisture from solvents, polyols, prepolymers, plasticisers and pigments. It prevents bubbling and downglossing caused by high moisture levels on the substrate or from the atmosphere.

According to ACL, unlike traditional moisture-curing polyurethanes, Incozol 2 produces tough, elastic coatings without carbon dioxide gassing. Virtually solvent free, it has a very low toxicity rating which makes it ideal for use as a reactive diluent in high solids formulations.

The most popular end applications of the product to date include lacquers for automotive refinish, bubble elimination in two pack potting compounds, prevention of downglossing in clear wood coatings, pigment drying/grind additives, to prevent gassing in zinc rich alkyd paints and to eliminate adhesion loss due to bubbling in two pack aromatic adhesives. In addition, it can be used as an on-site additive for polyurethane flooring or to increase moisture tolerance in one pack aliphatic systems.

Other key performance benefits claimed of Incozol 2, besides coating improvements such as improved chemical and physical resistance, include its tolerance to repeated opening of containers, particularly in environments of high atmospheric humidity. In addition, Incozol 2 exhibits an extended shelf life of at least one year in unopened containers.

Further details of ICL's complete range of oxazolidines including data sheets, test reports and technical bulletins are available on request from the company's head office in Preston on +44 (0) 1772 201964.
