Dempsey retires as chairman of PPG Industries

Jerry E. Dempsey, 65,board chairman of PPG Industries since September 1993 recently retired from the company and its board of directors.

Raymond W. LeBoeuf, 50,president and a board member since December 1995, succeeded Dempsey as chief executive officer in July. In September he was designated to also become board chairman on Dempsey's retirement.
