Upgrade for Plascoat PPA571 coatings

Plascoat has announced an upgrade of its PPA571 fluidised bed and electrostatic (ES) formulations.

The thermoplastic PPA571 coating, is said to have benefited from optimisation of the product formulation.

According to Plascoat the result is that both formulations now offer a 20 per cent improvement in salt spray resistance and a glossier finish, while PPA571ES also has an enhanced tactile performance.

The upgrade is thought to add to the performance and aesthetics performance of PPA571 in water industry applications. Plascoat also believes the coating will maintain its claimed cost advantage of up to 50 per cent over nylon –achieved through its one-shot application with no primer requirement and a lower material density that does not afflict the coating thickness or its integrity.

PPA571 is already said to be in receipt of EC approval and the specific support of the German, UK and Belgium control agencies, Plascoat recently won approval from the highly influential Department of the Environment Drinking Water Inspectorate (DWI) for the electrostatic spray (ES) version of PPA571. The development is thought to mean that coaters no longer have to invest in dedicated dipping facilities to reap the advantages of PPA571 over traditional water industry coatings for pipes and fittings.

The DWI is reported to have approved Plascoat PPA571ES in contact with water for washing, cooking or food production purposes. PPA571ES can be applied using conventional thermoset systems without any requirement for modifications.

PPA571 claims to provide good long term adhesion, robustness and excellent resistance to pollutants.
