US boost for Plascoat

Plascoat informs us that the USA has become the latest country to recognise the value of its PPAS71 thermoplastic coating in the corrosion protection of water pipelines and installations.

Underwriters Laboratories Inc. has announced that the electrostatically applied PPA571ES White 110 complies with the applicable requirements for UL Classification in accordance with ANSI/NSF Standard 61.

The company also reports that it has stepped up its range of lining options for the internal corrosion protection of water and foam filled, mild steel fire extinguishers with the launch of PPA686.

PPA686 is a polyolefin-based polymer alloy which claims to combine a wide processing window and excellent flow qualities. It has been developed for electrostatic lance application in a single shot – without the need for a printer – using such semi-automated systems as Plascoat's Falcon 80 and Falcon 360.

The lining requires a lower processing temperature and reduces energy use. Further savings are said to result from lower material density, yet PPA686 claims to provide a pin-hole free coating with ultra-low absorption and a high level of resistance to aqueous elements, including the foaming agent AFFF.

The company also has announced that it is having to revise cost savings projections for its NG30 low density polyethylene (LDPE) following detailed performance reports from early customers.

Plascoat had estimated that manufacturers engaged in the coating of such wirework as refrigerator shelving could make savings of up to 25 per cent over competitive materials. However, actual user reports submitted by two EU and two Eastern European manufacturers are reported to show that savings are nearer 50 per cent of their coating cost.

According to Plascoat, around 30 per cent has been due to the reduced application density of NG30, while the lower energy requirement associated with the application of the coating is equivalent to a further 20 per cent saving on powder cost.
