Adhesives in electronics network launches offensive in the field of education

Cross-European professional education for adhesive technology in electronics

Adhesive technologies are of increasing importance in the manufacture of electronic components and assemblies. The use of adhesives to attach electronic components is considered to be more environmentally-friendly and can be more economical than the soldering technology currently used. The successful implementation of adhesive technologies however requires specialised knowledge. In order to make access to such knowledge more readily avaiable, the network"Adhesives in electronics", funded by the European Union, has formed a working group in charge of educational issues. This working group is called EDUCATION and its coordinators are Helle Westphal of the Danish Toxicological Center (DTC) and Jean Lepagnol of Consulting-Distribution-Services (CDS) in France.

Specialised courses in the field of adhesives are being offered in several countries, e.g. in Germany, France, the UK, Poland, Italy and Finland. A list of these courses, as well as other valuable information on adhesives in electronics, are available on the network Internet (http://www.adhesives.de).

The network "Adhesives in electronics" has been active since March 1998, as part of the Brite-EuRam Programme of the European Commission (DG XII). The network comprises 51 companies, research centres and universities from 14 European countries, which are all active in the field of adhesives in electronics and microsystems. The co-ordinator of this network is the Technology Center for Information Techniques of VDI/VDE GmbH (VDI/VDE-IT).
