Automated electronics assembly has a fair degree of irony about it: on the one hand, it is commonly supposed to be more efficient than manual assembly but on the other, no one knows how much. This is partly due to the relative speed and rate of development for which these technologies are taken up. Consequently, relatively little research has been done into the quantification of it — at least until now.
