Scottish Music Handbook, 1996

I was surprised, and most impressed, to discover from this new directory, which is a spin‐off from the Centre’s database, what a wealth of musical activity there is in a relatively sparsely populated country like Scotland, and how much of it takes place outside the main lowland conurbations. Some names are well known, but there are many that are new ‐ to me at least.

Entries are mainly about musicians and organizations in the classical music field and jazz, so there is very little overlap with The Scottish Music Guide, published by The Music in Scotland Trust, whose main...
