First came general guides to the Internet. These were followed by directories of Internet resources which quickly became very fat volumes indeed. Then came subject guides such as Science on the Web[1]. As the Intemet expanded, the guidebooks became more specialized, and titles such as The Internet: A Guide for Chemists[2] and Oil and Gas on the Internet[3] appeared. Now there is a book dealing with how to use the Internet to raise funds, and a well‐researched and comprehensive work it is too.
