What an un‐put‐downable book this is! Did you know that the “dreaded lurgy” of Goon Show fame may have its origin in the German chemical company Lurgi? that “Kate and Sidney” is slang for steak and kidney pie? and that a Glasgow Kiss is a headbutt? Despite the unwieldiness of this paperback version ‐ the tight perfect binding and narrow inside margin keep closing the pages, and I dare not put the book face down on the photocopier for fear of breaking the spine ‐ the book is “crucial”, perfect for a “jag”, a real “hot‐dogger” of a “gismo”!
