This exemplary annual bibliography, presented bilingually in French and English, continues its masterly delineation and meticulous organisation of its rapidly expanding field, on this occasion slightly delayed by information processing problems. The number of entries totals 21,412, making this volume the third largest to date. Serious research in linguistics depends crucially on this world‐ranging, impeccably scholarly bibliography. It is good to learn that, henceforward, Bibliographie Linguistique/ Linguistic Bibliography will also have a CD‐ROM version, a prototype of which was presented at the XVIth International Congress of Linguistics, held in Paris from July 20 to 25, 1997.
