Erik Haralson of the State University of New York at Stony Brook in his “Editor’s Note and Guide to Usage” indicates that the Encyclopedia of American Poetry: the Nineteenth Century is meant to complement “the fine two‐volume anthology American Poetry: The Nineteenth Century, published in 1993 by The Library of America under the editorship of the distinguished poet and critic John Hollander”.
