Exit, Pursued by a Bear: Shakespeare's Characters, Plays, Poems, History, and Stagecraft

Louise McConnell's Exit, Pursued by a Bear has a very brief foreword written by Michael Boyd, Artistic Director, the Royal Shakespeare Company. Boyd's is a “puff” for McConnell's book which “offers us a truly accessible guide, not just to Shakespeare's plays but to Elizabethan theatre and society too” (p. vii). McConnell provides three paragraphs of acknowledgements but fails to provide any discussion of the aim of her volume, the audience it is written for, or selective principles.
