How different the books in this series are! This reviewer recently reviewed Peter Lock's The Routledge Companion to the Crusades (RR 2007/401) and was quite struck by the differences in approach in these two books. Whereas, in The Routledge Companion to the Crusades, there is quite a strong emphasis on narrative, text, “the story” and how it has been presented by historians, The Routledge Companion to Britain in the Eighteenth Century 1688‐1820 has a very different focus.
