This is the second edition of a book published 16 years previously as The Opera da Capo Manual. It is a thorough guide to a large number of operas, designed to support those planning a performance or production both in selecting a work appropriate to the forces available or to be able to check quickly what is required in terms of chorus, orchestra, soloists and stage management.

The author could not include every opera so has chosen those most likely to be performed, citing reasonable parameters for the inclusion of mainstream works, and other less well-known ones, e.g. those...
