Several previous editions of this work have been reviewed in these pages[1]. This edition, however, of which the volume under review is titled on its cover “VOLUME ONE”, is the first to cover the popular as well as the classical and light music fields. According to the title‐page verso the work first appeared in 1935, and had reached its tenth edition by 1985; from the 11th (1988) onwards, new editions have appeared biennially.
