Although bearing this outline history of the Labour Party from Keir Hardie to Tony Blair no political or professional ill‐will, it has to be stated right at the outset that it is not a book for the reference library. Of the Labour Party’s 97‐year‐old history only two chapters are devoted to the 1900‐45 period whereas seven chapters cover the postwar period. Written by Tony Wright, Labour MP for Cannock and Burntwood, and Matt Carter, a member of Labour’s National Policy Forum, and prospective parliamentary candidate for the Vale of York, it was more likely produced in preparation for the 1997...
