No doubt there will be those evoking political correctness who will express some qualms at books for 8‐11 year olds about books highlighting the virtues of speed, especially in cars and motorcycles; but it must be emphasised that nothing of the sort is extolled here and, in the face of pressures coming from elsewhere, these two volumes give a straightforward factual scientific and technical background to the subject: they state and illustrate the facts complete with scientific discussion. How the child receives and applies this information is another matter, but facts are better than advertising or propaganda and these volumes...
