Today, the American writer Stephen Crane (1871‐1900) is remembered, if at all, for The Red Badge of Courage (1895). This powerful novel set at the time of the American Civil War gave its author instant fame. Stephen Crane wrote more than one novel, a few short stories, some free verse poems and served as a war correspondent covering for various New York newspapers the forgotten Spanish‐American War and the 1897 Greco‐Turkish War.
