A well‐known poster shows a young woman with a steady gaze, pulling up her sleeve to expose her strong right arm, under the words “We Can Do It!”. The model for the poster was Rose Will Monroe, who really worked in an aircraft factory before appearing in a series of US propaganda films during the Second World War. She died on 31 May 1997, but gained a niche in twentieth‐century history as “Rosie the Riveter”.
