Edward N. Treverton, an antiquarian book dealer based in Asheville, North Carolina, has a geology degree from the University of Tennessee. He has collected Traven for more than 20 years and claims in his bibliography to have solved a literary mystery. In his preface Treverton writes that the identity of “B. Traven ‐ actor, anarchist, German revolutionary, American exile in Mexico, and author of 16 books with millions of readers ‐ is perhaps the greatest literary mystery of the century”. Little is known about Traven. He died in 1969: through his novels he became “an American countercultural hero”.
