The title of this anthology requires to be taken literally, for it concerns James VI, King of Scots, not James I, King of Great Britain (who was physically the same person). In other words, every chapter covers James’s reign in Scotland, and many of them the period before he achieved his ambition of succeeding to the English throne, thus bringing about a turning point in the history of his country.
