Medieval Archaeology: An Encyclopaedia

The subject matter of this encyclopaedia is the archaeology of Europe from the collapse of the western Roman Empire at the start of the fifth century AD to about AD 1500. It specifically excludes the Byzantine world and the Balkans. The Editor’s rationale for producing this book at this time is the increasing interest in medieval archaeology and the important new discoveries in the field particularly because of a series of major excavation programmes in medieval cities.
