It is almost impossible to review adequately these two impressive volumes within the compass of a relatively brief notice, but every attempt will be made to do so. David Vagi, the author, must be congratulated on a number of counts. First, for his courage in tackling the project; second, for his persistence in carrying it through to fruition; and third for the breadth of his knowledge which is amply demonstrated in these two volumes. Between them they present 1,300 pages devoted to the history and coinage of the Roman Empire from 82bc to ad480. One can almost hear his sigh...
