Stefan Blaschke started the History Journal Guide (HJG) in 1997 as a graduate student in history, sociology, and philosophy at the University of Cologne. Formerly known as Historische Zeitschriften, HGJ became a part of the pioneering Virtual Library in 1999. An international web directory for journals and discussion lists in the field of history and archaeology, HJG broadly defines history as the “study of the past including all periods, all regions, and all fields” and is intended to serve as a point of departure for researchers, graduate students, and librarians.
