The East Asian Collection

The East Asian Collection contains historical images of early twentieth century China. The collection is sub‐divided into the China in the 1930s Collection/Tianjin Collection, the Holmes Welch Collection and the William Hervie Dobson Collection.

Military images form the bulk of the China in the 1930s collection/Tianjin Collection. This contains images of the Chinese 19th Route Army, the US 15th Infantry Regiment at China Service and the Japanese Army. Many of the images depict scenes of the Japanese invasion and Chinese defence during the Sino‐Japanese Conflict (1937‐1945) and the Second World War.
