The Chambers Dictionary (11th edition)

I have five general English dictionaries around my desk – six if you count Word Origins (Ayto, 2005) (RR 2006/151) – but Chambers is the one I most frequently turn to first. As I am still using the 1993 edition (Chambers, 1993), I am not sure whether that is a tribute to the soundness of the original work or an admonishment to me to keep myself more up to date; I suspect more of the former than the latter, not least because my automatic first call on Chambers is copied by my wife and other members...
