Of the seventeen autonomous communities, which make up the Spanish state the region of Galicia in the northwest of the Iberian Peninsula is among the least known outside Spain. With an economy based predominantly on agricultural activity, the region, until recent years, occupied a relatively isolated location in terms of communication links to the rest of the country.
