In recent months, the vogue for international business mergers has been getting bad press. Despite the fact that the push for big joint ventures such as DaimlerChrysler continues, success stories are notably uncommon. The idea of two powerful firms from different continents pooling their resources often makes for an attractive prospect. Yet in practice a widespread inability to overcome the complexities of different cultures results in little added value or understanding.
