This briefing is prepared by an independent writer who adds their own impartial comments and places the articles in context.

Findings

In light of the economic crisis, there has been an increasing need for social entrepreneurs. Where profits and individual success were king now the need of the many is key. In this light, the Delphi model, combined with wisdom of crowds, can be seen to significantly improve the understanding of the strategic design of teaching social entrepreneurship via libraries. While there are many factors governing the adoption of social entrepreneurship, it is clear that more needs to be done to understand how better to impart knowledge and boost societal creativity and progression. In this sense, non-profit organizations, such as libraries, are perfectly placed in their capacity to disseminate information and build useful databases. These can be seen to work in Finland and the combined efforts of Ensimetri and WRAGNET working in the Pirkanmaa area.

Practical implications

The paper provides strategic insights and practical thinking that have influenced some of the world’s leading organizations.

Originality/value

The briefing saves busy executives and researchers hours of reading time by selecting only the very best, most pertinent information and presenting it in a condensed and easy-to-digest format.
