Keywords: Philips, Awards

Philips Electronics Manufacturing Technology (EMT) has received the prestigious Ford Q 1 Quality Award in a ceremony that was held on 21 September at the company's Alpharetta headquarters. The Q 1 is the highest award presented by Ford Motor Corporation in recognition of a supplier's commitment and dedication to quality, and is based upon carefully measured and audited criteria.

The award was presented on behalf of Ford by Nancy Heitzman, purchasing specialist, Visteon Electronics. Ford Motor Company recently sold the electronics division, which is now an independent business. In presenting the award, Heitzman cited Philips key contributions to cost savings, reliability, performance, service and support. Significantly, Philips EMT is the first surface mount technology (SMT) supplier to obtain this recognition from Ford Motor Company.

The two companies have a working relationship dating back to the early 1980s. Ford was one of Philips EMT's first major customers. Philips EMT is the preferred supplier for high-volume placement equipment, and has delivered more than 180 machines to Ford facilities worldwide, including Hardware Glue Machines(HWGs) for glue transfer using pins, FCMs, ACMs, and GEM machines.
