Flextronics International completes acquisition of the Ericsson Visby, Sweden plant

Flextronics International Ltd have announced the signing of the final agreement to complete the acquisition of the Ericsson Visby, Sweden operations. Flextronics has acquired the complete manufacturing operations including the facility, equipment and materials. All 900 employees will be offered employment. The Ericsson Visby facility focuses on manufacturing for the mobile systems infrastructure primarily radio base stations. The transfer took effect on 30 June 1999.
"The agreement is an important step in the long-term cooperation between Ericsson and Flextronics International. The acquisition of the Visby plant paves the way for a extensive partnership and is additionally strengthened by a new global supply agreement",says Ronny Nilsson, President of Flextronics International Western Europe.
"Both the transfer of the Visby operations and the new supply agreement support Ericsson's strategy to focus on its core business and become the leading telecom supplier", says Björn Boström, senior vice president for Ericsson's Supply and IT.
