Speedline launches high-speed flexible wave soldering system

Keywords Speedline, Wave soldering

Speedline Electrovert has launched Vectra, a flexible, high-speed wavesoldering system designed for medium to high-volume production environments, which require fast changeover, process flexibility and system reliability.

The Vectra is a mid-range high-speed wavesoldering system capable of soldering all types of printed circuit boards including dense and difficult-to-solder SMT boards from 2 to 18in. process width. It incorporates a fluxer module mounted in a slide-out drawer inside a fluxer cradle that enables a high degree of interchangeability and provides a quick conversion between foam, wave or spray fluxertypes.

Additionally, Vectra uses a new interchangeable preheater technology that enables easy conversion from radiant heat to forced convection by sliding out and exchanging the panels. The six foot preheat capability ensures sufficient topside temperatures on most complex assemblies, while the patented Electrovert IR Pyrometer control system provides continuous board temperature monitoring and closed-loop preheat feedback.

Vectra's solder module features a high capacity, cast iron roll-out solder pot and low maintenance pump with AC motor for automatic start/stop of the solder wave. A unique new platform using a common flow duct permits interchangeability of solder nozzles in the field. In addition, the Vectra offers the patented coN2tour®inert boundary system, and the coN2tour plus with hot gas debridging knife.

Board transport is provided by a finger conveyor module with either flexible or rigid V-titanium fingers. Using Thompson cross shafts assures conveyor parallelism, down to±0.5mm at any temperature, while a manual width adjust or motorised control option adjusts process width from 2in. to 16in. or 18in.

Vectra integrates proven technology and processing capabilities, new standard features, additional options and enhanced data acquisition software. The new system incorporates a Windows NT operating system that simplifies application programming and enables operator multi-tasking. Real-time graphic animation and data windows also enables full and accurate process control, including the ability to process various boards of up to 18in. The additional charting capabilities for virtually all important machine and process parameters greatly improves documentation requirements.

Maintenance on the Vectra is quick and easy with strategically placed access doors throughout the system. Its modular and ergonomic design maximises access in the front with lift-up hoods and a fold-down tailgate. The rear of the machine has several access doors that open to expose the electrical panels, fluxer, flux tank and solder pot,Built-in troubleshooting capabilities include software driven analogue and digital measurements for virtually the entire machine.
