Siemens has announced the launch of the newest family member of industry leading SIPLACE SMT assembly machines, the SIPLACE 80 S 23 (HM).
As part of the modular SIPLACE platform, this machine is an extension of the high speed series of assembly machines that features head modularity (HM), an innovative concept developed by Siemens and unique to the patented 12 and 6 nozzle SIPLACE revolver heads. Targeted at OEMs and contract manufacturers who are increasingly under pressure to meet changes in production requirements within minutes without additional capital investment, the SIPLACE 80 S 23 (HM) can function as three different placement machines all in one. Simply by varying the combination of 12 and 6 nozzle heads, production flexibility is maximised. The three-in-one arrangements are as follows:
Two 12-nozzle revolver heads for high-speed placement of components ranging from 0402 to 18.7 x 18.7mm;
two six-nozzle revolver heads for high-speed placement of components ranging from 0603 through 32 x 32mm; and
one six-nozzle and one 12-nozzle revolver head for high speed placement of components ranging from 0402 to 32 x 32mm.
The SIPLACE 80 S 23 (HM)is prepared for the placement of 0201 components. With a placement rate of 23,000 components per hour in a frame of just over five feet long (1.6m), the SIPLACE 80 S 23 (HM) delivers an accuracy of 90µm @ 4 sigma (67µm @ 3 sigma).
The two revolver heads travelling on separate gantries pick up components independently from eight,12/16 and 24/32mm tape or bulk case feeders. Up to 80 8mm tapes can be accommodated. The printed circuit board (PCB) and the component feeders are stationary during the placement process to maximise pick up and component placement reliability and help minimise defects-per-million (DPM) rates,regardless of the size, shape or type.
The SIPLACE 80 S 23 (HM)utilises wheeled feeder tables that integrate a unique lift system, designed to eliminate the need to purchase additional hardware and to assist with rapid changeover and reconfiguration.
The SIPLACE 80 S 23 (HM)is available with a standard single conveyor PCB transport system or the optional dual lane conveyor; both feature automatic width adjustment. The dual lane option consists of two single lane conveyors in one machine and operates either in synchronous or asynchronous mode. Speciality tape feeders are available for advanced and odd-shaped components, including flip-chip components, bare die and wafer handling.
