Combined AOI/AXI inspection system recognises both visible and hidden faults on circuit boards
Keywords Viscom, Automatic optical inspection
The VPS 7054 system combines the classic visible light inspection with the micro-focus X-ray inspection and is conceived for the automatic verification of one-sided and double-sided circuit boards.
With the new VPS 7054, Viscom is reacting to the huge demand for a reliable quality control of hidden components and solder joints. In the electronics industry especially, circuit boards with concealed components, which have evaded the traditional optical inspection, are being used more and more often. With the combined aid of X-ray and visible-light pictures, all typical faults in SMD, BGA and THT components can now be detected in a single pass operation.
The sensor system consists of an X-ray tube with a focus of a mere 5µ in size, permitting high direct magnification with an excellent picture definition and a possible image field size of up to 8 x 11mm. Additional SI visible-light modules can be used to increase the throughput. The inspection system can be employed in stand-alone or inline operation and a connection to a repair station with SPC analysis (Statistical Process Control) is possible. The system is fully compatible with other VPS AOI systems.
