Machine Vision Products, Inc. (MVP), manufacturer of automatic optical inspection (AOI) systems, has introduced MVP CIMCIS Dynamic Process Control™,an error measurement, inspection and feedback system that collects data from boards in process and lets operators take immediate, corrective action whenever any segment of line performance drops below preset limits. It is claimed that the combination of MVP's high speed AutoInspector Series of AOI systems and MVP CIMCIS Dynamic Process Control™ gives users the ability to monitor and optimise pick and place systems, feeders and nozzles, resulting in tightly controlled process variability, higher first pass yields, and improved quality.
Using traditional inline AOI measurements, MVP integrates the accuracy of its AutoInspector Series with the MVP CIMCIS Network and Line Controller to deliver real-time Dynamic Process Control and optimum SMT line management. Because MVP's AOI systems can detect defects anywhere on the line, including paste, pre-reflow and post-reflow/wave, the ClMCIS Expert Response System should identify problems created by individual placement machines, feeders and nozzles, sending operator instructions and corrective actions to the "guilty" machine based upon Process Control Limits set by engineering. In addition, Dynamic Process Control can be used to verify line setup, helping users build products right first time, without the need for expensive repairs and increased operational costs.
Real-time data collected by MVP's AutoInspector are captured and archived in a CIMCIS "open" SQL database. With the addition of a Web Browser feature, in-depth process information can be accessed and instructions sent to particular machines from anywhere in the world via the Internet. This information is protected through Windows® NT security features.
"This is a cutting edge product far superior to anything in the marketplace", said Dr George Ayoub, founder and president of MVP. "As an industry, we understand the value of SPC, yet the process itself has not fully delivered the yield enhancements that we expected – in part because information is delivered after the fact: after a substantial amount of time and money has been lost. Dynamic Process Control, on the other hand, is real time. Errors are found and corrected almost immediately. With this innovation, MVP CIMCIS has raised the bar. And, for the first time, users have a tool that inspects the entire process immediately, and shows line operators where corrective action needs to take place – down to the level of individual feeders and nozzles."
