The 3Z Component Placement solution has claimed the highest placement rate(13,000cph) of any machine in its class thanks to the two independently positioned heads with two spindles per head (Plate 1). Owing to "on the fly"centering, it is not necessary for the heads to slow down as they pass over the cameras. Strobe lighting allows the component to be seen at high speeds without distortion. This process gives a sharp black on white image for reliable vision process. The head camera on the 3Z fulfils two roles: first it provides fiducial recognition with walk-through programming and second, it gives 30x magnification for enhanced board inspection.

Built around a robust split axis design (the y-axis is mounted directly to the frame), the 3Z offers a rigid foundation for the placement heads. Renowned for their long-term accuracy, split axis machines achieve a settling time unattainable by light-weight gantry machines.
Operator interface is via a touch screen assembly that is reported to be easy and intuitive to control. The graphical interface provides the most user-friendly system. Easier than the traditional small text mode displays,large text buttons and pictures guide the operator during programming and placement.
