Orbotech Ltd has announced the introduction of new inspection capabilities for its line of automated optical inspection (AOI) systems for electronics assembly, which are specifically designed to support new product introduction(NPI) operations.
Available as a software upgrade for Orbotech's Trion-2000™and VT-9000™ AOI systems, these new AOI capabilities for NPI expand on and complement Orbotech's proven inspection techniques including advanced statistical modelling, which involves extracting and utilizing parameters from production assemblies to sustain a constant detection level over time. These new enhancements offer high early defect detection of component position and solder joint quality on PCBs of varying complexity during the pre-production design phase. Fast creation of a usable inspection program is another key feature of Orbotech's NPI solution. By offering high first pass defect detection and reduced programming, and by eliminating test fixture build time, fixture revisions and debug time for NPI jobs that can easily amount to 7 or 8 days for a complex board, are now dramatically reduced.
