This research aims to address the recruitment and retention challenges faced in the hospitality and tourism industry in India. The study explores the challenges through the perception of a business development manager in Mumbai, India and offers innovative applications in the industry.
A qualitative approach was adopted by undertaking a semi-structured interview with the business development manager in order to provide effective solutions for stakeholders. The data were coded and arranged in a methodical manner to find important insights, recurrent themes and patterns.
High turnover rate, impact of COVID-19, technology, recruitment tactics and retention were emphasised as problems in the interview. Furthermore, solutions such as work–life balance and wellness facilities were focused upon as potential solutions.
This study analyses the recruitment and retention challenges from the perspective of a business development manager in the Indian context, contributing to the existing body of knowledge by offering practical, literature-informed solutions for long-term organisational success.
