This article introduces the thematic issue “Overcoming Barriers: New Perspectives on Tourism in Kazakhstan.” It positions Kazakhstan as an emerging tourism destination with substantial cultural and natural assets, while explaining why infrastructural deficits, human capital shortages, limited policy coherence and cultural misalignments continue to constrain tourism development. The article also clarifies how the thematic issue responds to the original proposal and its core research questions.
The article provides an editorial positioning of the contributions included in the thematic issue. It does not present a separate empirical study. Instead, it connects the theme focus, the Kazakhstan context, the relevant literature and the expected impact of the selected articles.
