Introduction
The Flamborough Head to Gibraltar Point Shoreline Management Plan covers the highly
dynamic and varied coastline between Flamborough Head in the East Riding of Yorkshire and
Gibraltar Point in Lincolnshire, including the outer Humber Estuary. The extent of the project
area is shown in Figure 1. This project was funded by Defra and the Environment Agency
and is part of a national framework of Shoreline Management Plans which covers the 6,000
kilometres of coastline in England and Wales. Shoreline Management Plans provide a largescale
assessment of the risks associated with coastal flooding and erosion and present a longterm
policy framework to reduce these risks to people and the developed, historic and natural
