The SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) pandemic precipitated the quick adaptation of almost all service-learning (S-L) to some form of electronic servicelearning (eS-L). Often, this involved converting simultaneously all of the instructions and all of the service activities to an online environment. This unexpected transition generated a mix of concerns and new possibilities as online digital technologies had to be considered as platforms for teaching, learning, reflection, service, and assessment for everyone—community partners, students, instructors. As all stakeholders reflect on these new ways of engaging in S-L, we hope that those reflections will uncover ways to continue the successes while improving on the scramble to adapt to eS-L. These reflections will, hopefully, form a basis to enhance both traditional S-L and eS-L and provide opportunities to improve all teaching and learning, even if some or most of the courses revert back to their original format eventually. Although we expect that many individual instructors of S-L courses had to adapt to an eS-L modality by themselves, we emphasize how institutional support has and can play a role in developing and supporting eS-L in the future.
