A study is presented of results from cone penetration tests, standard penetration tests and undrained triaxial tests carried out in a glacial boulder clay at Stanlow, Cheshire. Cone factors are derived relating undrained shear strength to cone resistance. The cone factor for the mechanical cone is found to be considerably higher than that for the electric cone.
