A growing body of research has focused on first-generation Asian immigrant parents and their network orientation as a way to explain the academic success of their children. However, there is limited research on the network orientation of second-generation Asian children themselves, particularly in the context of schooling. Through construction of second-generation youth networks in school, a group of Korean American high school students learn to adapt and to negotiate their immigrant parents’ limited structural resources in order to achieve academically.
